Unm Food presents La Po goes local

UNM Food is set to host the 6th Annual La Po Goes Local dining event. The menu at the event located in La Po Plaza, Oct. 19 from 5 – 8 p.m., will feature food from local providers such as La Montanita Co-op, Nelson Meats, Bueno Foods, Tucumcari Mountain Cheese Factory, Sichler Farms, and many more.

La Po Goes Local is a special evening that celebrates the flavors and culture of New Mexico with locally sourced ingredients and heritage-inspired recipes along with new partnerships such as Visit Albuquerque, and various local businesses who donated gift cards that we will raffle off.

Guests will enjoy a delightful assortment of dishes, including gourmet Esquite Tostado served with queso crema or queso fresco, crispy fried bread, a flavorful Native American stew, and a selection of other local recipes. Bueno Foods will be roasting green chile on-site to top off the sights, flavors, and aromas of Fall in New Mexico.

For dessert, we will serve lavender cupcakes and red chile sugar cookies. Last but not least, to quench your thirst, we will be serving refreshing watermelon and cantaloupe aguas frescas.

The meal is accompanied by entertaining sights, sounds, performances and an appearance from our very own UNM Mariachi band.

“Our dining program features a legacy night in the fall and one in the spring as a semester highlight and special thank you to our meal plan holders. It is our chance to give our customers a really unique experience. La Po Goes Local allows us the privilege to honor our culinary heritage and the agricultural community in New Mexico.” said Amanda Gerard, manager of Institutional Support Services for UNM Food.

The University of New Mexico food service provider, Chartwells, works with local food distributors to incorporate locally sourced products into the menu at La Posada on a constant basis. The event highlights the partnership between UNM Food and local vendors.
UNM Food will also partner with the Lobo food pantry to create an interactive activity where students can pack boxes with nonperishable food items and write an encouraging note.

Meal plan holders will be admitted for a meal swipe or the discounted meal plan dining dollar door rate of $9.25. Non-meal plan holders are welcome to join by paying the dinner door rate of $11.15.
