A virtual welcome is not the typical greeting University officials normally plan for when welcoming incoming freshmen to The University of New Mexico each fall, but that’s what it’ll be for freshmen students entering UNM in the fall of 2020 in the midst of a pandemic.

An incredible journey begins this Sunday, Aug. 16 for new Lobos—the Class of 2024—with UNM’s virtual Freshman Day. Despite the virtual event, the entire campus is excited to welcome the Class of 2024 to The University of New Mexico through a series of virtual events hosted by the Lobo family including administrators, faculty, staff and fellow students.

In these events, new frosh will get tips from current UNM students, a parent’s panel, performances by students and other Lobos, and greetings from faculty and future professors. Plus, messages from UNM President Garnett S. Stokes and Provost James Holloway will be a part of the Lobo Launch ceremony.

Scheduled Events

Lobo Launch | 3 p.m. / Facebook Live

In place of an in-person Freshman Convocation, students willl be formally inducted into the history of our University at our Lobo Launch—streaming on Facebook Live from 3-3:30 p.m. You’ll receive a personal welcome from President Stokes, an address from Provost Holloway, and a greeting from new head football coach—and Lobo alum—Danny Gonzales.

Plus, at the Lobo Launch, 300 freshmen will get a free UNM T-shirt. You can only claim your free shirt if you tune in!

The president of the UNM Parent Association will be joined by other active Lobo parents and family members for a moderated panel about their new student’s journey at the University. For more information about the Association, visit Parent Association.
