The University of New Mexico hosts TEDxABQ at Popejoy Hall. The event brings together New Mexico’s most inspiring and fascinating people to share big ideas on one stage. TEDxABQ takes place Sept. 12 at Popejoy Hall at UNM from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The main event’s theme is “On Your Mark.” It will feature 20 speakers who will discuss some of New Mexico’s biggest ideas. There are several speakers who have ties to UNM.

Nyika Allen, a director of the New Mexico Technology Council and technology expert on 2 KASA Fox, is giving a talk titled “Fighting Revenge Porn,” in which she will tell her story of her traumatizing experience. She thus has become an advocate for victims of revenge porn.

Also giving a talk titled “Artist in Residence,” is Chris Clavio who is an electronic artist and an entrepreneur, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from UNM. Clavio will speak on his work that he has shown across the United States. Most recently he presented his interactive Full Dome piece at Art Basel Miami.

“Co-Housing in Santa Fe,” a talk from Erica Elliot, discusses her discovery 25 years ago, of a group intent on forming a co-housing community in Santa Fe. Elliot discusses the benefits of co-housing, and how it provided a sense of community for her.

Tickets for TEDxABQ cost $65 for standard tickets and $25 for UNM students with ID. More information about the event, as well as a list of all other speakers, can be found on the website.
