Toss a teddy bear, fill a cup of coffee or enjoy a donut as part of BeKind Week 2018—a week dedicated to renewing kindness efforts across campus.

The Division of Student Affairs is once again partnering with the BeKind UNM Committee, a volunteer group of staff, students and community members to celebrate and promote random acts of kindness.

The 2018 BeKind UNM Week events unofficial kick-off is on Wednesday, Feb. 7 with Donut Wednesday sponsored by the UNM Alumni Association. This year’s celebration includes the popular Kindness Carnival on Monday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the UNM Student Union Building (SUB) Atrium. The carnival features the Teddy Bear Toss where participants are asked to bring a new teddy bear for donation and toss it from the second floor of the SUB onto a target on the first floor for their chance to win prizes.

This year, officers with the UNM Police Department will be on-hand to toss the first bear. The toss is part of the teddy bear drive which runs from Feb. 5-16 to benefit the Albuquerque Police Department (APD). APD officers give the bears to children in traumatic situations, to help ease anxiety.

The remainder of the week includes opportunities to donate bears at two Lobo basketball games, and a Fill It Forward event sponsored by Nusenda Credit Union and Satellite Coffee to benefit the Lobo Food Pantry.
