The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Adult Basic Education office is offering free New Mexico High School Equivalency (HSE) prep classes Monday, Jan. 11 through Wednesday, May 4.

UNM-LA Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program Coordinator, Jane Clements said, “We’re very pleased with the response we’ve received for this class in the past few months and are hoping that more students make the choice to enroll for this upcoming session.”

The New Mexico HSE opens doors by helping those who have earned their credential to qualify for higher paying jobs and to enter a degree or certificate program.

The prep classes are for students 16 and older. Students between the ages of 16–17 must have a completed Underage Permission Form to be admitted. Students can take advantage of pre-testing, small group and individual instruction, tutor assistance (subject to volunteer tutor availability), computer practice and independent study. After earning the HSE, students are eligible for UNM’s Bridge to Success Scholarship and New Mexico Lottery Scholarships. Home-schooled students are welcome to attend.
