The UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) is offering an opportunity to travel to Cuba to learn about the unique culture and history of the island this December.

An information session about the trip is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Latin American Iberian Institute.

Students will be able to experience the International Jazz Plaza Festival and learn about Art Deco building such as the Edificio López Serrano and Edificio Bacardí. The tour group will visit various museums and explore the city of Havana to gain insight into the rich history and culture Cuba has to offer.

Attendees will also learn about the current state of US/Cuba relations, meet with the grassroots organization Proyecto Espiral and the community project SalvArte, a residentrun rehabilitation project of the famous Edificio López Serrano, one of Cuba’s first skyscrapers.

The program cost is $3,075. Important deadlines include Sept. 12 -- $500 non-refundable deposit due along with required paperwork, and Oct. 12 – balance of full payment along with signed risks and conditions form. The trip is Dec. 12 -19.
