A new scholarship program has been developed to encourage first time students to begin their college journey at The University of New Mexico Los Alamos branch campus.

The UNM-LA Start Here Scholarship is open to incoming first-time students to help provide financial assistance with educational costs for the upcoming school year. Recent high school graduates and returning adult students can apply for the $500 scholarship. The scholarship will be applied toward educational expenses including tuition and fees, books and course materials.

“We are seeing students who intended to study at universities across the country but have made the decision to start at UNM-LA and benefit from our quality instruction and individualized support,” said Kathryn Vigil, Student Affairs director. “We created the Start Here Scholarship to offer an additional incentive to stay at home and choose UNM-LA during these stressful times.”

UNM-LA is offering a hybrid model this semester; a combination of online and in-person classes.
