The University of New Mexico was presented with the esteemed Best Buildings Award from the Association of General Contractors (AGC) New Mexico for the UNM New Mexico Mutual Champions Training Center in the category of New Construction within $2.5 million to $5 million. UNM Athletics was also approached by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) about featuring the facility in the “Facilities Showcase” section of their March 2024 magazine.

About the Champions Training Center
The New Mexico Mutual Champions Training Center spanning 11,300 square feet, situated in the South End Zone of University Stadium, caters to both UNM Division 1 and Olympic athletes. It comprises two levels: a 9,774 square feet weight-training floor and a 1,538 square feet cardio mezzanine offering views of the UNM Lobos football field. Replacing an inadequate temporary tent facility, the new center supports coexisting team training and facilitates the use of advanced technology for injury prevention and rehabilitation by UNM’s medical and athletic training staff.

Designed to inspire UNM student-athletes, the facility serves as a space for training, maintaining physical health, and achieving competitive excellence. On game days, the Lobos can be seen entering the playing field via a ceremonial pathway integrated into the Champions Training Center. The facility was developed in partnership with McCLAIN + YU Architecture and Design and AGC General Contractor Franken Construction Company, who nominated the facility for the award.
