Tuesday, Jan. 21 is both the start of the spring semester as well as the start of the legislative session and the University of New Mexico Parent Association is helping students find a solvency fix for the Lottery Scholarship.

The Parent Association recently sent out a survey asking parents questions such as how important the Lottery Scholarship is for their student and should eligibility require an increase from the current GPA of 2.5.

The GPA increase was one potential solution of many proposed at a Lottery Scholarship Summit conducted in September 2013.

Faculty Senate President Richard Holder said, “The approach the students have come up with about raising the GPA is a good idea, but only a partial solution; where the rest of the needed funding will come from remains to be seen.  But there is no distance between what the students want and what we support.”

The survey, which ends Friday, Jan. 17, can be taken at Lottery Scholarship Survey.
