On Saturday, Feb. 4, the UNM Department of Mathematics and Statistics will host the 44th Annual UNM-PNM Statewide Mathematics Contest. The contest will be preceded by a public lecture featuring Professor Mike Raugh, retired professor of Mathematics Harvey Mudd College and director of IPAM's Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) Program. The lecture, titled "Archimedes' Law of the Lever and how he used it to deduce the volume of the sphere," begins at 10 a.m. in the Science and Math Learning Center (SMLC) on UNM's main campus The public is invited and refreshments will be served before the lecture.

The lecture will be followed by Round II of the UNM-PNM Statewide Mathematics contest from 1 - 4 p.m., also in the SMLC Auditorium.
