“As I begin my sixth year at The University of New Mexico, I have never been prouder to be your president," Stokes said. "Our state is truly the Land of Achievement, and the University for New Mexico will always be here to help ensure that all New Mexicans can dream boldly, aspire fiercely, and achieve confidently.”

This year marks the president’s fifth State of the University speech and will address several key themes including UNM 2040, a roadmap guiding the University well into the future, the institution’s role in supporting the state's economy through innovation, campus improvements and safety, as well as the many accomplishments across campus including Health and Human Sciences, athletics and the branch campuses.

Stokes was installed as UNM’s 23rd president of The University of New Mexico on May 12, 2018, and is the first woman to hold the post in the university’s history. A tireless advocate for a transformative student experience, an empowered faculty, and a campus culture of continuous improvement, Stokes brought to New Mexico’s premiere R1 university more than four decades of experience to the helm of the state’s flagship institution.
