Chasing Dichos Through Chimayo
Don J. Usner’s Chasing Dichos Through Chimayó, designed by UNM Press Book Designer Lila Sanchez, won the 2015 SWBDA in the gift book category. The book was also named the Silver Winner of the 2015 PubWest Book Design Awards for historical/biographical book.

Several UNM Press titles were recently honored with awards at two design competitions. Three UNM Press titles won 2015 Southwest Book Design and Production Awards (SWBDA) from the New Mexico Book Association (NMBA), and three UNM Press titles won 2015 PubWest Book Design Awards:

Don J. Usner’s Chasing Dichos Through Chimayó, designed by UNM Press Book Designer Lila Sanchez, won the 2015 SWBDA in the gift book category. Chasing Dichos Through Chimayó was also named the Silver Winner of the 2015 PubWest Book Design Awards for historical/biographical book.

Bruce B. Huckell’s and J. David Kilby’s Clovis Caches: Recent Discoveries and New Research, designed by UNM Press Senior Book Designer Catherine Leonardo, won the 2015 SWBDA in the scholarly and technical category.

Benjamin Radford’s Mysterious New Mexico: Miracles, Magic, and Monsters in the Land of Enchantment, designed by Sanchez, won the 2015 SWBDA in the trade book, non-illustrated category. Mysterious New Mexico was also named the Silver Winner of the 2015 PubWest Book Design Awards for adult trade book, non-illustrated.

John Taylor’s "The Science of Soccer: A Bouncing Ball and a Banana Kick," designed by Sanchez, was named the Bronze Winner of the 2015 PubWest Book Design Awards for sports/fitness/recreation book.

In addition, two UNM Press books were honored as SWBDA finalists:

Erv Schroeder’s "The Memory of Stone: Meditations on the Canyons of the West," designed by Leonardo, was the 2015 SWBDA first finalist in the art and photography category.

Cipriano Frederico Vigil’s "New Mexican Folk Music/Cancionero del Folklor Nuevomexicano: Treasures of a People/ El Tesoro del Pueblo," designed by UNM Press Art Director and Senior Book Designer Lisa Tremaine, was the 2015 SWBDA first finalist in the scholarly and technical category.

The NMBA announced the award winners at the organization’s gala and membership meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 17, 2015. Winners of the PubWest Book Design Awards will be recognized at the 2016 PubWest Conference to be held Feb. 4–6, 2016 in Santa Fe, N.M.
