The 5th Congress of Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, set for May 5-7 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, will convene oncology experts the world over to focus on cancer control and prevention. Included prominently in the program is UNM's Ashwani Rajput, M.D., Victor and Ruby Hansen Surface Professor, chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, and chief of Surgical Services.

International oncologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, radiologists, general physicians, general surgical, dietitians and nutritionists, residents, students and nurses will attend three days of cutting-edge seminars based on the conference theme: "Colorectal Cancer - Diagnostics, Treatment and Control."

Rajput will offer three lectures titled:
Surgery Intervention – Early Disease Surgery: Colon
Surgery Intervention – Early Disease Surgery: Rectal & Virtual Colonscopy
Advanced Disease – Metastatic (Liver- surgical)

The Gulf Federation for Cancer Control is a federation of 12 cancer associations in the GCC states and Yemen organized primarily to promote cancer awareness in the region. One of the major objectives of the federation is to highlight the magnitude of cancer in the gulf area. Towards this objective, the federation organizes a regular regional conference every two years focusing on a specific type of cancer at each conference.
