University of New Mexico Provost and Executive Vice President Chaouki Abdallah announced that UNM School of Law Dean David Herring will step down effective July 1, 2015.
Herring will remain at UNM as a valued and tenured member of the law school faculty when his term as dean ends.
“I welcome David’s continued contributions on behalf of the law school and the University as he has indicated to me how much he is looking forward to developing further his scholarship and teaching,” Abdallah said.
A limited, competitive search for a permanent Dean of the School of Law will be initiated immediately with the goal of hiring a new dean by July 1, 2015. As such, applicants will be limited to senior UNM School of Law faculty.
Given the dean’s multiple roles, including participation on judicial selection and the Judicial Compensation Committee, input will be sought from leaders from within the law school community comprised of its faculty, alumni, students, staff and friends of the Law School as well as leaders in the law community.
