The Staff Council is accepting nominations for the 2014 Gerald W. May Outstanding Staff Recognition Award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.

This Presidential Award, among the most prestigious awards for staff, is made possible by an endowment established directly by former UNM President Gerald W. May and is matched by the Regent's Endowment Fund.

The accolade is very highly regarded within the Universities’ professional community.

“This is not just an award, the money comes from an endowment put together by (former) President May and also includes a plaque displayed in Scholes Hall in perpetuity, so it really is a lasting recognition of dedication to the University,” said Staff Councilor Mary Clark.

Past recipients have been chosen from an array of departments, including the Physical Plant Department, Parking and Transportation as well as the Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine Department to name just a few. The award truly seeks to represent the greatest in service and dedication from among a staff already known for exemplary performance.

Permanent employees whose “primary” job is defined as staff, are at least .50 FTE and have completed the probationary period are eligible for nomination. There will be a minimum of three awards. Each recipient will receive a cash award and a plaque.

The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Additional information and nomination forms are available on the Staff Council website.
