The UNM Staff Council is lending a helping hand. Last year, more than 100 UNM volunteers stepped up to assist at Roadrunner Food Bank (RRFB) during the holiday break. Once again, the UNM Staff council seeks volunteers to assist RRFB on Monday, Dec. 29 to help sort and pack food.

Three shifts are available including 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. shifts. To volunteer, email Mark Reynolds at reynolds@unm.edu with your preferred shift(s). Interested participants should RSVP no later than Dec. 19 at 5 p.m.

Last year, Reynolds led the charge on his own, assembling over 100 volunteers from the Health Sciences Department and their families. Reynolds has already assembled 50 volunteers and has optimistic projections for the final count. As Chair of Staff Council Events, Reynolds looks forward to explore other businesses and foundations that could use a hand that UNM could offer.

“UNM employees serve as ambassadors of the University and the Staff Council promotes this idea by participating in community service projects,” said Kathy Meadows, administrative officer, UNM Staff Council. “We believe that service to the community not only promotes a feeling of goodwill and camaraderie among UNM staff but also reflects the true spirit of UNM as a viable, active partner in the community in which we live.”

Roadrunner Food Bank is located at 5840 Office Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109. There is plenty of parking at the building. Volunteers should meet in the lobby 10 minutes before their shift begins to get an assignment.
