Six UNM students were selected to participate in the 2013 Domenici Public Policy Conference, Wednesday-Thursday, Sept. 18-19 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. A total of 20 university students from around New Mexico are chosen for the student panelist program each year. The six students participating include Nicolas Cooper, Nicole Devereaux, Holly Marquez, Veena Patel, Earl Shank and Chandni Sharma.

These 20 students are the only audience members allowed to ask questions of the speakers during the conference. The Domenici Institute’s Advisory Council makes its selections after a review process of many nominations. Faculty members and administrators from universities across the state nominate students in recognition of their accomplishments and academic record.

This year’s speakers include Gen. Gwen Bingham, commanding general of White Sands Missile Range, John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, William Frist, retired two-term Republican U.S. senator from Tennessee, current New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and Senator Ken Salazar and more.

In addition to receiving a $250 U.S. Bank Visa gift card, the students will have reserved seating, a student panelist dinner banquet and orientation and a private meeting as a group with retired U.S. Senator Pete Domenici.

The 2013 Domenici Public Policy Conference costs $50 to attend. The event is free to all university students.
