The University of New Mexico Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) announced recently that through the end of May, current UNM students, staff, and faculty are eligible for the reduced fare rates on the New Mexico Railrunner Express. The reduced fare rates provide an average discount of about 50 percent, depending on the type of fare purchased and come at a time when gas prices are on the rise.

"The Railrunner provides service between Belen and Santa Fe and serves as a critical transportation option for those coming from different parts of the region," said Robert Nelson, PATS interim director. "Parking and Transportation Services and UNMH provide commuter shuttle service between campus and the downtown Alvarado Transportation Center where the Railrunner stops. This service is in addition to all of the ABQRide connections between the center and UNM."

To take advantage of the reduced fare, UNM users must show their Lobo or HSC/UNM Hospital identification card to the ticket agent shortly after boarding the train. An additional discount is available to users who purchase their NM Railrunner tickets online.
