University of New Mexico Vice President for Administration and Chief Operating & Chief Financial Officer David Harris recently announced a nationwide search for the vice president for Human Resources. Currently, Jewel Washington is serving as interim vice president for Human Resources. The search, currently underway, will finalize the appointment for the permanent position, which has an anticipated start date of Aug. 1.
“With more than 10,000 staff members at UNM, a good HR department is key to making sure we have a productive workplace that keeps employees engaged and fulfilled in their jobs,” UNM President Robert G. Frank said. “A national search will help ensure that we have chosen the very best person for this critically important position, which touches the entire University.”
Amy Wohlert, UNM President’s Office chief of staff and appointed chair of the search committee, is working to put together a diverse, strong committee while enlisting professional recruiting service Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc. to identify potential candidates.
As Chief Human Resources officer for the University, the individual in this position provides strategic leadership and direction to all facets of human resources management as it pertains to the University and its branches. This person is responsible for directing management of the various component activities of the University's Human Resources department, ensuring that all HR programs and initiatives are integrated and effective in supporting the overall mission, goals and objectives of the institution.
Additionally, the HR vice president will directly participate in institutional planning and decision making as a member of the University's Executive Cabinet, as well as provide broad administrative leadership and coordination to the University Administration Division.
