The University of New Mexico-Valencia campus and Tomé Gallery are hosting the fun-filled eighth annual Soup-R Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the scholarship endowment fund. All profits will benefit the Virginia Casados Clark Memorial Scholarship.
The fundraiser, which began as a small grassroots event in the pottery studio at the gallery, has outgrown several spaces and is now being held in the Student Community Center on the Southside of UNM-Valencia Campus.
"The Soup-R Bowl is not only the second largest fundraiser for student scholarships at our campus, but it is one of the community’s most anticipated events," said Kristina Martinez, UNM-Valencia Development and Donor Relations manager.
Colorful handmade clay bowls, crafted by artists at the gallery, are available for sale at the Tomé Gallery (2930 Highway 47) and will also be available at the gallery and UNM-Valencia Campus on the day of the event.
"There’s not much better than being able to enjoy homemade soup in a handmade bowl created by local artists and having the proceeds support scholarships for local art students," Martinez said.
Tickets are available for $15, which includes a handmade bowl of choice as well as soup, bread and dessert.
There will be a silent auction, TV coverage of Super Bowl 50 pregame festivities in the hall and live music provided by Noe Lara of Los Lunas.
