The results of the recent, first-ever Rivalry Blood Drive competition between New Mexico State University and University of New Mexico and sponsored by the ASUNM Community Experience are in: UNM-402 units - NMSU-283 units.
UNM donors turned out in force to lead the way in the blood drive.
“Three hundred and twenty two Lobos turned out to give their time and their blood to save a life and prove we are the best,” said Jillian Martinez, ASUNM executive director of Community Experience. “The event was another way for UNM to show school spirit and hype up the rivalry with NMSU. But in the end, both schools know that something good was achieved together.”
Martinez added that when NMSU first proposed the challenge it generated a lot of excitement to try something new for the week-long blood drive. “We came together as a campus and did a lot of good for the community,” she said. “I want to thank all of the ASUNM Community Experience volunteers for helping us sign up donors and promote the drive, and especially Mrs. Frank for making the event so visible.”
For those who didn’t get the opportunity to donate during the campus drive and wish to do so, visit Hoops Madness Blood Bash to schedule an appointment or visit United Blood Service located at 1515 University Blvd. in Albuquerque. The drive continues through Monday, March 3. All donors will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to the Mountain West Championship Men's Basketball quarterfinals game on Thursday, March 13 with a two-night stay at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., including a $100 gas card and a $25 food credit. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, March 4.
