The University of New Mexico was selected to host the 2020 International Association for College Admission Counseling Conference, taking place July 14-17.

With an anticipated 1,400 conference participants attending from nearly 90 countries, UNM is seeking volunteers to help with many preparation activities and conference events over a six-day period.

The International ACAC Conference is a chance to showcase what UNM has to offer to international recruiters and high school college counselors from secondary schools across the globe. This type of networking experience is a remarkable opportunity to expand our reach to high achieving prospective students.

Volunteers are needed for event logistics and hospitality during the conference, including on-site registration/check-in, the opening ceremony, late-night events at Hodgin Hall and Civic Plaza, morning golf tournament and 5K, and a dodgeball game at The Pit, among others.

UNM is encouraging volunteer participation and has authorized paid leave for community engagement in an amount of up to four (4) hours, utilizing UAP 3300, 3.2. Community Engagement. (See criteria below.)

Community Engagement Leave Criteria

To qualify for paid leave to support Community Engagement, the following criteria must apply:

  • Must be a regular exempt or nonexempt staff.
  • Obtain prior approval from supervisor.
  • Hours are dependent on business/department needs.
  • Volunteer hours must fall within the employee’s regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Hours that exceed the authorized four (4) hours during the employee’s regular work hours can be offset with Flex Scheduling and/or Annual Leave with prior approval from the Supervisor.
  • Consistent with Section 3.1 of Policy 3305: Overtime, the four (4) hours of Community Engagement are not considered time worked.

Proof of participation is required and will be confirmed. Proof of volunteer hours will be tracked by the Global Education Office. (When registering to volunteer be sure to use your UNM email and indicate your affiliation with UNM.) For time reporting purposes, Time Keepers should use Earn Code 300 (Other Paid Leave). Please note that not all volunteers have to be UNM employees. Invite your spouse, friend or child who is over 18 to volunteer.

If you are ready to promote what a great place UNM, the City of Albuquerque, and the State of New Mexico are, sign up to be a volunteer today! Your first step is to complete the Volunteer Interest Form. Volunteer registration ends June 1. A member of the UNM ACAC Planning Committee will reach out to you by May to finalize your assigned shift work and instruct you on your volunteer duties.

The Volunteer Interest Form does not need to be completed by employees of UNM who are already tasked with working the conference as part of their job (i.e. planning committee members, conference services and event staff, etc.)
