Wynn Goering has been appointed chief executive officer of UNM West, UNM's campus in Rio Rancho, President Robert Frank announced today. Goering, who currently serves as special assistant to the president for branch affairs at UNM, assumes his new duties July 1.
"Dr. Goering's assignment reflects the heightened priority we're giving UNM West in our efforts to meet area educational needs," Frank said. "It's one of a number of moves we'll be making to strengthen our presence in Rio Rancho."
Beth Miller, who has been serving as interim executive director of the campus, will become UNM West's director of community affairs. "Beth has done a terrific job of developing professional networks with our educational and business partners in Rio Rancho," Goering noted. "I'm looking forward to working with her and building on what she's already accomplished."
Goering has held his current position in the Office of the President since July 2012. Prior to that, he served in a variety of administrative positions at the university, including interim postings as executive director of both the Taos and Gallup branch campuses, interim vice president for Institutional Advancement, and vice provost for Academic Affairs. He has taught English and American literature at Bethel College in Kansas, McPherson College and the University of Chicago; and business ethics and strategy at the UNM Anderson School of Management. Goering is an MBA graduate of the Anderson School and holds masters and doctoral degrees in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago.
