The student section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) at The University of New Mexico has been awarded the 2022 Samuel Glasstone Award, which is given annually to outstanding student chapters.

The UNM chapter tied with Missouri University of Science and Technology to receive third place for the award. The award honors chapters “for accomplishing the most notable achievements in public service and the advancements of nuclear engineering.” Winning chapters receive a certificate and a cash award.

It was the fifth year in a row that UNM received the award. Christopher Perfetti, an assistant professor nuclear engineering, has been the faculty advisor for the group the last four years. Ethan Krammer, a senior in nuclear engineering, was ANS student chapter president this academic year.

The ANS student chapter conducts a variety of activities throughout the year, including hosting professional development, social and outreach events, as well as showcasing their technical excellence at professional conferences.
