The Health, Exercise and Sports Science Department (HESS), in the UNM College of Education, hosts the Spring Fling Triathlon, Kids Race and Wellness Fair on Sunday, April 12 in celebration of the UNM School of Medicine’s 50th Anniversary.

For adults, the triathlon involves a 5K run, which includes a two laps around UNM’s central campus, a 20K bike ride to Mesa Del Sol and back to UNM, and a 400 meter serpentine swim. Kids’ distances include a quarter mile run, one mile bike ride and a 25 meter swim for children ages 4-7, and a one mile run, three mile bike ride and 200 meter swim for children ages 8-12.

Interested participants may register in five divisions including: Adult/Athena/Clydesdale, Junior Individual (17 and under), Kid Individual, Adult Team and Junior Team. Regular registration, which continues through Friday, March 27, varies from $15 (kid’s individual) to $130 (adult team).

UNM staff and faculty may use tuition remission. To register, visit the HESS office located in Johnson Center. Late-registration will be held from March 28 through April 11. Triathlon packet pickup is available Friday, April 10, from 4-7 p.m. at High Desert Bicycles, located at 8110 Louisiana Blvd., NE, Ste. A, and also Saturday, April 11, from 12-4 p.m., at Bosque Running Shop, located at 6001 Winter Haven Dr., NW, Ste. 1.

Additionally, UNM’s Campus Community Emergency Response Team (CCERT) is looking for volunteers to assist with the event on race day from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interested volunteers should email Byron Piatt, bpiatt@salud.unm.edu.
