Way To Serve® New Mexico recently announced its new Way To Serve® Español program – a complete multi-media online alcohol server and seller training program for Spanish speaking adults.

Way To Serve® Español is the first and only Spanish language alcohol server and seller training program certified by the State of New Mexico Alcohol and Gaming Division, and is now available.

Way To Serve® is an alcohol server and seller training program built and tested at the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions (CASAA). Way To Serve® Español is designed for easy access and comprehension for all Spanish speakers. The training can be read, listened to and viewed with Spanish voice-overs.

Using the latest adult learning principles, Way To Serve® teaches servers and sellers state laws and regulations on the sale of alcohol, how to check IDs to prevent sales to minors, the dangers of drinking alcohol during pregnancy, and ways to prevent over service of alcohol to reduce drunk driving.  Way To Serve® was the first online alcohol server and seller training program approved in New Mexico.  Nearly 22,000 servers and sellers have used Way To Serve® to learn responsible alcohol service techniques.

The technology, jointly created by scientists at UNM, Klein Buendel, Inc., and the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE), led to the formation of a start-up company, Wedge Communications LLC, in 2011. The company licenses the technology from STC.UNM, the University of New Mexico’s technology-transfer and economic-development organization, and the other owners.
