The University of New Mexico Student Activities Center (SAC) and the Associated Students of UNM (ASUNM) welcome students back to campus with its annual “Welcome Back Days,” Aug. 14-21. Events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UNM Duck Pond. Each day features a variety of information tables, free food and live entertainment at various locations.
Welcome Back Days include events to get students back in the academic swing of things as well as introducing them to many of the great programs and communities the university has to offer.
“Welcome Back Days is a long-standing tradition at UNM that provides access to the resources students need for success,” said Ryan Lindquist, associate director of SAC. “Information booths will provide opportunities for students to take advantage of.”
The weeks begins with Operation Lobo Move-in, an event that helps welcome students to residence housing by helping them unload and move their belongs into their dorm rooms.
Students can join 2,000 of their peers for casino games, Henna tattoos, karaoke, free food , student organization information, giveaways and much more at Friday Night Live (Aug. 14) in the Student Union Building (SUB) from 8 – 11 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, UNM’s Class Crawl begins on the north side the SUB mall immediately following Freshman Convocation. Bring a printout of your class schedule and get a personalized tour to where your classes are located.
If you have never seen a movie under the stars, stop by Johnson Field at 8 p.m. to watch the summer hit, Avengers: Age of Ultron on a 30-foot screen. The movie and popcorn are free, just bring a friend and a blanket. Additional showing of Avengers: Age of Ultorn will be held Aug. 18 - 20 in the theater located in the lower level (plaza) of the Student Union Building, room 1003. The Box Office opens 30 mins prior to each screening.
