Spring is in the air, which means the mountain runoff will soon be filling New Mexico rivers. UNM’s Recreational Services is offering classes to help students, staff and faculty understand the basics of kayaking.
Learn to comfortably and confidently enjoy whitewater kayaking and the miles of class two to five whitewater New Mexico has to offer. The classes will cover basic boat control skills, such as the wet-exit, efficient forward stroke and kayak roll. It includes three classroom and pool sessions followed by a two-day weekend adventure on the Rio Grande Racecourse, south of Taos.
Pool and classroom sessions:
April 12, 19, 26 from 7 to 10 p.m.
Weekend river adventure:
April 28 and 29
More than 25 hours of instruction will cost only $250 for UNM students and $320 for all others (regularly priced at over $400). Tuition remission is available.
