Marc Saavedra, director of Government and Community Relations at the University of New Mexico, was arrested on DWI charges Wednesday night. The University was saddened by the news. Saavedra was immediately placed on administrative leave from his UNM position, pending further investigation.

Following an arrest for a second DWI in 2006, Saavedra pleaded guilty and signed a “Last Chance Agreement.” Upon his successful completion of that agreement, a subsequent agreement was issued and signed that stated a reoccurrence could result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

These documents are archived in the University system. Staff will locate them and make them available to the media next week. UNM has a full range of disciplinary options available and will take swift and appropriate action, following its investigation.
