WHO: Twin Buttes High School Visits UNM
WHAT: Twin Buttes High School, from Zuni, N.M., is visiting the University of New Mexico’s College of Education as part of a collaboration under a $596,000 grant provided by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to UNM last year. The collaboration involves working with the Zuni (N.M.) Public School District (ZPSD) to support teacher preparation and professional development.
The project, titled, “Zuni: Engaging Teachers and Community (ZETAC),” is designed to enhance the educational attainment of children in the ZPSD by focusing on the continuing education, professional development and recruitment of teachers in Zuni to empower a community of learners in the northwestern New Mexico pueblo.
The field trip involves 60 students and staff that will participate in interest areas regarding future careers, majors and workshops involving admissions, financial aid, scholarships and a campus tour as part of UNM’s recruitment and outreach to Native America communities.
