- Byron Piatt, emergency manager at The University of New Mexico, graduated from FEMA’s National Emergency Management Executive Academy at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Md., after he completed the full curriculum that supports the advancement of the emergency management profession at strategic policy and executive leadership levels
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers, and NMCEM through the New Mexico Emergency Management Association (NMEMA)
- Piatt was recently awarded Emergency Manager of the Year award by NMEMA
- Piatt is the Commander of the NM-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT)
- He has worked throughout the state of New Mexico with EMS services, hospitals and local officials on emergency preparedness
- Maintains licensure as an EMT-I and has served as a volunteer firefighter
- Holds both an MPA and a BBA in Finance from The University of New Mexico
- FEMA certified instructor of the Incident Command System (ICS) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) curricula
- Teaches Emergency Management and Preparedness through the Health, Exercise, and Sports Science Department at UNM
