Provost Chaouki Abdallah has invited four finalists for the position of dean at the University of New Mexico's College of Education to visit campus April 22 – May 1.  The candidates, Bruce Johnson, Karin Jordan, Salvador Hector Ochoa and Valerie Martin Conley, will meet with faculty, staff, students and community members during their visits. Bruce Johnson – professor, Environmental Learning and Science Education and head of the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies, University of Arizona. Johnson received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from UNM. He also serves as the co-director of the University of Arizona’s STEM Learning Center and is the PI of a $2.21 million grant from the NSF titled “Beyond Bridging: Co-Education of Preservice and Inservice Elementary Teaching in Science and Mathematics."

Karin Jordan – professor and department chair of Counseling, University of Akron, Ohio. Jordan received her Ph.D. in Child & Family Development/Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of Georgia. She has received the Bronze Service Award from the President of the United States and the Humanitarian Award from the American Counseling Association.

Salvador Hector Ochoa – dean and professor, College of Education, University of Texas–Pan American. Ochoa received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Texas A&M University, where he also served as an Associate Professor in Educational Psychology. He has served as Dean at UTPA since 2007. Over the span of his career Ochoa has procured $3.7 million in grants and authored more than 30 publications and has been awarded many honors, including in 2013 receiving the Texas A&M University College of Education and Human Development’s Outstanding Alumni Award.

Valerie Martin Conley – Professor and Chair, Counseling and Higher Education, Ohio University.  Professor Conley received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech.  She has also served as The Patton College’s Director of the Center for Higher Education; she also served as the PI and lead for Ohio University’s statewide launch of the Ohio Education Research Center.
