Anderson School of Management finance students will present their portfolio management strategies and securities selections to a group of financial services professionals on Monday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Jackson Student Center (GSM building). This is the first fall meeting of the Investment Advisory Committee for the 2010-11 academic year.
Anderson's Investment Management Program allows students to manage millions of real dollars under the guidance of Anderson faculty members, who are led by IMP Director Sul Kassicieh. "The world of financial analysis is becoming more and more complex, and as a result, 350 universities in the U.S. have student-run investment programs," said Kassicieh. "To compete effectively in this environment, our students at UNM are presented with solid financial theories as well as exposure to managing real money. This serves New Mexico well as we prepare the next generation of investment, financial and corporate managers."
Students will present stock and portfolio reviews and recommendations to the Investment Advisory Committee, a group of investment professionals who offer first-hand feedback and guidance while evaluating recommendations made. These professionals represent the NM State Investment Council, Sandia National Laboratories, PNM Resources, Thornburg Investment Management, Wells Fargo, MarketSpace Financial, RBC Dain Rauscher, and Davis Selected Advisers. Committee members will continue to meet with students throughout the fall and spring terms.
