UNM African American Student Services continues celebrating Black History Month by hosting a panel discussion "Flight of the Black Athlete and Black Politics: Does it Matter?," Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the SUB Ballrooms. Tickets are available by calling (505) 277-5645 or email, wcarrea@unm.edu. They are $10 for students, $15 for the general public and $200 for a table.

The panel, facilitated by KRQE sportscaster Van Tate, includes Albuquerque native and Valley High School graduate NFL Houston Texans running back Arian Foster; Dr. Sheila Renee Peters, team psychologist for the Tennessee Titans; Bill Rhoden, columnist from the NY Times, Dr. Tamica Smith-Jones, director of Athletics, Clark Atlanta University and former Washington Redskins All-Pro Dexter Manley.

The significance of the event is to demonstrate to athletes, regardless of their culture or heritage, the importance of education, money management and professionalism. All proceeds fund student scholarships, awards and emergency funds.
