There is always a learning curve when it comes to being a freshman; however, the Lobo Connect Summer Courses are working to ease that learning curve all for free.

Classes offered include introductory courses for Business majors or Health-related Majors. Lobo Connect Summer Bridge Courses can help students with placing into the right level of math or English in Fall 2020 with math refreshers and courses dedicated to building writing skills. These courses are designed to develop skills for success, getting information about your area of study, learn about support resources at UNM, and getting a boost for a good Fall Semester.

Classes are offered in four different sessions with the earliest session beginning June 15 and the last session beginning July 20. All course offerings are entirely free.

“These free courses will help incoming students connect to our community and cross the bridge from high school to becoming a UNM Lobo,” said Associate Provost for Curriculum Pamela Cheek. “It’s hard to get ready for college normally and it was especially hard in Spring 2020. We want to give incoming students a great start at UNM by providing free Lobo Connect Summer Bridge Courses.”

UNM plans to offer a mixture of remote and in-person classes in the Fall if public health conditions in the region permit it. Lobo Connect will enable Lobos to start making life-long connections to friends, to the community, to ideas, to opportunity this summer, and because connection is that much more important with the need to protect the pack through social distancing and other public health measures.

“Students will need to familiarize themselves with UNM and the college environment and will need to know how to use online tools and how to access student support like free tutoring online,” said Cheek.  “These courses are a “how-to” for succeeding in your major or for getting college skills in writing and math nailed down.”

All students interested in taking a course this summer are required to fill out the interest form and an academic advisor will contact them to assist with the process. Once registered, students are advised to visit UNM Learn.
