Since the 1930s, the Hanging of the Greens has been UNM’s oldest student-run campus tradition. The Mortar Board Senior Honor Society is now accepting applications for student organizations wanting to take part in this tradition.
This year, there is no cost for student organizations to participate; however, should you sign up and not show up for the event, a $75 fee will be charged to your student organization account.
The Mortar Board will provide the bags, sand and candles; organizations are just asked to fold, fill, light, and set-up their own bags. Set up begins Dec. 6 with the Hanging of the Greens happening on Dec. 7.
Applications are due Nov. 23 with mandatory meetings to follow scheduled for late November and early December. Those are as followed and will take place outside the Mortar Board office in the SUB Lobo Lair room 1040:
- Nov. 25 – 2 p.m.
- Nov. 26 – 12:30 p.m.
- Dec. 2 – 12 p.m.
- Dec. 3 – 11 a.m.
Only one person from each group must attend one meeting, and the area for your group to decorate will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis at the discretion of the Mortar Board.
