The University of New Mexico's Institutional Support Services has named Lisa Walden interim director of UNM Bookstores and Megan Chibanga interim director of Residence Life & Student Housing - after long-time Lobos Carrie Mitchell and Wayne Sullivan announced they'd be retiring at the end of January.

Walden’s 16-year career at UNM began as the general book manager. Then, she became the operations manager for books and supply. Since 2013, Walden's been the division manager of retail and marketing.

Throughout her time at UNM Bookstores, Walden has served on multiple boards and committees for national and regional industry organizations. She's most recently served as chair of the marketing committee for the National Association of College Stores and as secretary for the Rocky Mountain Skyline College Bookstore Association.

“Lisa will bring both proven leadership and industry knowledge to the interim position. We are fortunate to have her experience to continue to lead and guide the bookstores, said Melanie Sparks, assistant vice president of Campus Business Services. “While we are happy to see Carrie achieve her retirement goal, we feel UNM Bookstores will be in excellent hands with Lisa.

Megan Chibanga
Chibanga, a 10-year veteran at RLSH, has worked in several roles within the department, most recently as assistant director of Residence Life. Prior to UNM, she worked for California State University-Chico and Webster University in St. Louis.

“It’s never easy stepping in for a long-serving director like Wayne,” Sparks said. "But at Housing and Residence Life, like so many other departments within Institutional Support Services, we have developed a depth of talent that allows us to stay focused on the mission and successes, and we have great confidence in Megan.”

In addition to her role at RLSH, Chibanga serves as an executive board member for the Association of Intermountain Housing Officers. She is also a member of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International.
