Kathy McKinstry is the 2014 recipient of the Jim Davis Staff Council Award for Meritorious Service. She was nominated for her long and enthusiastic service with the Staff Council at UNM.

McKinstry is a long-time councilor and always plays a major part in Staff Council events and projects, including the Colleges Against Cancer Relay for Life Staff Council team. She has enthusiastically participated in this project for a number of years. McKinstry has also been the organizer of the staff picnic, the largest and most complex event during Staff Appreciation Month, for five years. She is also co-chair of the council's Rewards and Recognition Committee.

Under McKinstry’s guidance the Rewards and Recognition Committee created the People Appreciate Wonderful Staff (PAWS) award that monthly recognizes members of the UNM staff for their work.

“The Jim Davis award competition is presented historically during Staff Appreciation Month to honor those who have served Staff Council and sacrificed of their time, talents and energies," Staff Council President Renee Delgado-Riley said. "Kathy is deserving of this honor.”

The Jim Davis Award is named in the memory of staff councilor Jim Davis, who supervised the UNM Recycling Department. Davis was a member of Staff Council for more than five years and served on numerous standing committees. He also presided over council meetings as speaker for four years.
