A town hall style meeting to discuss the funding and the future of the New Mexico Legislative Lottery Success Scholarship will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lobo Room at the UNM Student Union Building. Guest speakers and policy makers will present the issues followed by a forum for student input into the various options.

The Lottery Scholarship, which has provided a college opportunity for so many New Mexico students, is facing some challenging times. The popular scholarship designed for New Mexicans is projected to run out of funding by fiscal year 2014 if measures are not enacted to protect its solvency.

The Legislature will be addressing this issue in its upcoming session starting in January. UNM student leaders organized the meeting to ensure that student voices are included in the dialogue.

This summit, which is open to the entire UNM community, will focus on providing student input on ways to preserve and stretch the Lottery Scholarship.
