The Associated Students of the University of New Mexico (ASUNM) have sworn in 11 new senators and three returning senators for the 2020 spring semester.

As a senator, duties include going to weekly senate meetings, holding office hours, and representing their assigned Student Service Agencies and student organizations. Weekly senate meetings alternate between assigned committee meetings and full senate meetings.

Senators are divided into three different committees—the Steering and Rules Committee, Outreach and Appointment Committee and Finance Committee. The Steering and Rules Committee is dedicated to approving the structure of legislation before it goes to the full senate. The Outreach and Appointment Committee is dedicated to approving ASUNM appointments and creating events and activities to reach out to the undergraduate student body. The Finance Committee is dedicated to allocating money through appropriations to student organizations and student service agencies.

Each committee has its own business respective to their committee which needs to pass their committee before being sent to full senate. At full senate, all senators approve the business that was decided on at committee meetings.
