This week on New Mexico in Focus, the Line Opinion Panel examines the findings of a recent Legislative Finance report alleging major shortcomings in Bernalillo County’s handling of behavioral health issues.

Plus, the Panel responds to news that Santa Fe will miss out on major law enforcement recruitment funding because they failed to apply. Gene asks what that could mean for the capital city’s police force. The panelists also react to the announcement from the U.S. Forest Service that prescribed burns can be used again, under new protocols.

Gene Grant speaks with the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health to ask about new COVID-19 boosters and who should receive them. Dr. Laura Parajon explains what seniors and parents need to know about those new vaccines.

Gene also catches up with Anna Martinez, a civil rights attorney and Albuquerque’s newest Poet Laureate.

Senior Producer Lou DiVizio sits down with three members of the U.S. Navy to talk about Navy week in Albuquerque and to explain some of the connections New Mexico has with that branch of the armed services.

New Mexico in Focus airs on NMPBS 5.1 (KNME HD) Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7 a.m., and streaming on the PBS video app.
