New Mexico in Focus host Gene Grant sits down with Ed Lewis, the man behind Essence and Latina magazines. The University of New Mexico graduate talks about his career and his biography, "The Man from Essence: Creating a Magazine for Black Women.”

The program airs Friday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. on channel 5.1 and appears online on the NMIF website shortly thereafter. The show rebroadcasts Saturday, Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. on channel 9.1 and again on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 7 a.m. on channel 5.1.

NMIF also explores the fictional worlds created by George R. R. Martin, a Santa Fe-based author whose books are the basis of the popular HBO series, "Game of Thrones,” and chats with with Lisa VeneKlasen, who was recently recognized by the mayor of Santa Fe for her work on human rights. VeneKlasen’s Just Associates (JASS) is a global network of activists, educators and scholars who promote women's rights, health and economic empowerment.

The Line opinion panel of local journalists make predictions about some of the news stories and issues that will stay in the headlines in 2015.
