The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) announces a departmental name change: the Office of Research and Compliance (ORC) is now the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC).

This change stems from a greater emphasis on integrity, training, and education as part of the overall vision and strategy under Vice President for Research Ellen Fisher’s leadership.

“Although a name change cannot eliminate misconduct altogether, it is aimed at reframing the focus on preemption of misconduct and associated investigations. The greater emphasis on preemption is expected to effect a positive change and reduce a reactive posture,” said Ana Andzic Tomlinson, executive director of ORIC.

This emphasis on prevention is a first yet important step toward creating positive change in the UNM Research community. Fisher, ORIC, and the OVPR appreciate the importance of integrity and compliance in research and will continue to consider it a high priority here at UNM. “This is one of many small steps I believe we can take to build that positive culture based on education, trust, mutual respect and teamwork within the research community,” said Fisher.
