The Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs has reorganized the department that works directly with members of the University of New Mexico faculty. The Office of Faculty Affairs and Services (OFAS) replaces the Office of Faculty Contracts and Services.

The reorganization of this service organization affirms the Academic Affairs goal of continual process and service improvements. The new organization will better support main and branch campus deans, chairs, directors, faculty and staff in the areas of faculty recruitment, hiring, contracting, compensation, leave, benefits, tenure and promotion.

The OFAS will provide consultation and direction to academic units on best practices specific to faculty employment matters and will participate in training and education programs related to process and policies. Additional assistance includes general human resources services for all academic personnel matters on main and branch campuses, as well as focusing on automation of faculty compensation processes.

OFAS has a new reception area in Scholes Hall for greeting clients and a new website. Although the website is still in development and more refinements are planned, it is ready to provide enhanced access to administrative information, implementation guidelines, and other tools and resources. Users are encouraged to take a look at the reconfigured office and to follow along as the website undergoes further development.

Led by Sr. Vice Provost Carol Parker and Director Theresa Ramos, the staff is engaged in strategic planning and reexamination of its mission and will reaffirm its commitment to providing excellent customer service and planned expansion of services for the academic community. In addition to automating compensation processes, the office is focusing on enhancing communication, greater access to information and building stronger partnerships with other administrative units across the University. An example of this effort is a series of monthly training workshops for department administrators to help ensure that staff members have current information about academic personnel and compensation processes.

The Office of Faculty Affairs and Services is located at 231 Scholes Hall, Mail Stop Code: MSC05 3400. Comments may be directed to Theresa Ramos.
