UNM Institutional Support Services has announced the appointment of Shawn Arruti as the new director of UNM Parking & Transportation Services (UNM PATS). Arruti officially assumed his role on Aug. 1, bringing over 25 years of comprehensive experience in public service, leadership, and law enforcement to the position.
Selected from a competitive field following an extensive search and open departmental and campus partner forums, Arruti's exceptional background shone through. His wealth of experience encompasses various leadership, policymaking, and training roles and positions. Notably, as a former captain in the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Arruti brings invaluable expertise in strategic planning, overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets, and providing leadership to large teams of professional and civilian staff.
His experience also extends to collaborating with various local, state, and federal agencies in the development and implementation of broad policies, standards, programs, and practices. Arruti's dedication to public service and his strong leadership skills were evident during his time serving UNM as PATS Parking Enforcement supervisor, where he gained valuable insights into the critical role that PATS plays within the UNM and Albuquerque communities.
"I am truly honored to take on the position of director of Parking & Transportation Services at UNM," Arruti expressed. "I look forward to enhancing our services, fostering positive relationships within the university community, and creating a lasting impact on our campus and beyond."
"Shawn's wealth of experience, leadership qualities, and dedication to community welfare make him the ideal candidate for this role," said Alicia Solano, assistant vice president of Campus Business Services at UNM. "We are confident that his innovative approach and commitment to excellence will greatly benefit our department and the entire university community."
Stepping into this role at a pivotal juncture, Arruti assumes leadership at a crucial moment when UNM's parking and transportation system confronts dynamic challenges. His appointment coincides with an evolving campus landscape, necessitating a visionary capable of embracing change and introducing innovative solutions. With UNM’s main campus undergoing growth and transformation, Arruti's guidance becomes indispensable as the department maneuvers the complexities of new construction, the Integrated Campus Plan, and the emerging campus parking needs that accompany them. He will play a pivotal role in synergizing the new construction initiatives with the optimization of existing parking lots, aligning the university's transportation infrastructure with its ambitious developmental trajectory.
As director of UNM Parking & Transportation Services, Arruti is poised to usher the department into a transformative era of streamlined and impactful services, thereby elevating the overall UNM campus experience.
