The University of New Mexico Staff Council presented Interim President Chaouki Abdallah with a Certificate of Appreciation for his advocacy for staff during these difficult financial times and for his support of Staff Council.

“President Abdallah has shown he is willing to listen to the concerns of staff and wants to preserve our work-life balance,” said Staff Council Speaker Mary Clark.

The award, which was created several years ago by the Staff Council Executive Committee, is called the “Staff Hero” award and is presented to those who have provided exceptional service to staff. At today’s presentation ceremony, the award was renamed the “Kathy Meadows Staff Hero” award in recognition of Meadows’ many years of service to Staff Council. Meadows served on Staff Council since its creation in 1990 and for the last eight years was its Administrative Officer until her retirement this summer.

Along with the award presentation, President Abdallah updated Staff Councilors on a variety of University initiatives and answered a range of questions from councilors.
