John Pinto

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sen. John Pinto, who was an alumnus and steadfast advocate of The University of New Mexico.

Throughout his long tenure in the state senate, Sen. Pinto was a proponent for all New Mexico students and, in particular, indigenous students – introducing and carrying countless bills supporting public, native, and tribal education.

In addition, he served our country as a Navajo code talker during WWII and was an incredible advocate of Veterans.

Senator Pinto was a dedicated leader, lawmaker and lifetime Lobo, and we are grateful for the lasting positive impact he had on our state and institution."
