A U.S. Amateur Qualifier will be held at UNM Championship Golf Club on July 9-10. The event will feature 51 players from all over the country — including four Lobos — vying for two qualifying spots over the course of 36 holes.

The qualifiers identified at UNM Championship will move on to the 118th United States Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif., on Aug. 13-29.

Current Lobos include: Brad Cole, Gustavo Morantes and Jack Anderson.

Former Lobos include: James Gehrke.

The United States Golf Association received 7,463 entries who will all be trying for a mere 251 spots to be earned in qualifying at 99 different sites including one each in Mexico and Canada. From there, qualifiers will join a field along with 61 automatic exemptions that will make up 312 players trying to claim the nation’s top prize in amateur golf. Entries were accepted from all 50 states and from 48 countries across the globe.

Pairings for the first day can be found at suncountrygolf.org. Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. for both days of the qualifier.

The Championship Golf Course

Since it was officially opened in 1967, The Championship Golf Course has been one of the finest facilities of its kind nationwide. Long and tough from the tournament tees — par 72, 7,555-yard course — The Championship Golf Course offers six sets of tee markers to challenge and enhance the enjoyment of any golfer. The Championship Golf Course boasts fairways that stretch out long and wide on hilly terrain that undulates up and down, right and left - all factors that make it difficult to reach the rolling, well-manicured greens. Stray shots often land in the rough, loose desert sand, water or sagebrush.
