The University of New Mexico Press announces the opening of the UNM Press Corner at the UNM Bookstore. A space to discover, browse, and purchase the widest selection of UNM Press books, the Corner features new and popular titles on the history, literature, ecology, and cultures of the American West and beyond.

UNM Press and the UNM Bookstore will celebrate the opening with a launch party on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bookstore, located at 2301 Central NE. UNM Press authors Benjamin Radford, Larry Littlefield, Melissa Savage, and Lenton Malry will be in attendance to meet, greet, and sign copies of their latest titles. Door prizes, hors d’oeuvres, wine, and other refreshments will also be offered.

“The University of New Mexico Press Corner at the UNM Bookstore builds on the great partnership the Press has with the Bookstore and offers the campus and community a fantastic selection of UNM Press titles,” said Katherine White, UNM Press Sales and Marketing manager. “It’s wonderful to see so many of our favorite books and award-wining authors in such an amazing display. It will definitely be a destination for UNM Press book lovers as well as those discovering our list for the first time.”

“The UNM Bookstore is happy to have this partnership with UNM Press,” said Lisa Walden, UNM Bookstore Retail and Marketing Division manager. “We have long felt that the Press should have more presence in our store and believe that what we have built together accomplishes that goal.

"We are proud to serve as the storefront for the Press and hope that this reception will allow people the chance to stop by and chat with some great authors, enjoy a cocktail, and see what we have created."

Established in 1929 by the Regents of the University of New Mexico, UNM Press ranks within the top third of publishing houses in the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) and is the fourth largest university press west of the Rocky Mountains in publishing new titles. With over 1,200 titles in print and as a distributor of more than 700 titles for thirty-five local and regional publishers, the Press is an important element in enhancing the scholarly reputation and worldwide visibility of the university.

The University of New Mexico was founded in 1889 and construction of its first building, Hodgin Hall was completed two years later. The Bookstore started with humble beginnings in an army barracks and then its location migrated from place to place around the UNM Campus. During the late 1950s, it was known as the “Associated Student’s Bookstore” and was located in the basement of the Student Union Building. It moved again in the early 1970s to what is now the Biology building on UNM Main Campus. In July of 1996 the UNM Bookstore officially began operating from its current location, adjacent to the George Pearl Hall Architecture building.
