The University of New Mexico's Department of Mathematics & Statistics encourages all undergraduate students who have been involved or are interested in mathematics research to participate in the 2024 Southwestern Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference (SUnMaRC) at the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, Friday-Sunday, April 5-7. Conference participation is free.

SUnMaRC brings together students and faculty across the southwest for a weekend of mathematics and is designed to provide opportunities for attending students to present mathematics research. The event consists of student talks and invited speakers from various areas including academia, industry, and government.

Beginning in 2004 as the Arizona Mathematics Undergraduate Conference, the conference changed to SUnMaRC in 2008 to recognize the participation of institutions throughout the southwest.

UNM participants can register using the Individual UNM Participant Registration link. Further information can be found on the conference website. Contact local organizers Dimiter Vassilev and Janet Vassilev with any questions.

Students interested in giving a talk or presenting a poster should be ready to provide the contact information of their advisor or mentor at the time of registration.

The deadline for UNM Participant registration is Friday, March 29, at 5 p.m.

Participating Universities, other than UNM, should be registered by their respective local coordinators using the Non-UNM group Registration (one per school) form. The local coordinators will then be able to provide a registration link to their student participants. Each non-UNM student will do their own registration using the provided by their local school coordinators link.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics intends to provide partial to full reimbursement for lodging, transportation, and subsistence for each participant. Carpooling with private or hired university vehicles is encouraged whenever possible. To avoid lodging charges and use the hotel paid by the conference, non-UNM student participants should fill out the registration form provided by the local school coordinator(s) by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
